Perfect beginning for Hills | AutoRoll - Recreation and Sports

Racing News: Charlie Hills enjoyed a dream beginning to his trainer job when his very first runner Blaise Chorus won at Kempton.

After his father Barry signed off on his final day as a trainer with One Lucky Lady at Bath on Saturday, the handover of the reins at Faringdon Place could not have gone much better.

And to make it a complete family concern, Blaise Chorus was ridden by Charlie?s brother Michael.

She had failed to win in any of her previous few starts, but had finished second in the Cheshire Oaks and run in the Investec Oaks at Epsom.

But the descent in class for the 32 For Slots Maiden Fillies ? Stakes made the difference. Sent off the 11-4 jolly, she made all of the running and, after shaking off her only real challenger Ecossaise, got home by five lengths from Sweet Lavender, who got up for 2nd place by a neck.

?That was great. The best way to start,? expounded the new handler. ?Michael gave her a fabulous ride. She's got lots of toe. She travelled well and has done it well. I was pleased with her. ?.

There are likely to be further horse races looted by both Blaise Chorus and Charlie Hills. The horse was rated 90 when winning at Kempton, and is likely to rise at least eight pounds for such an unambiguous success. However, this being a non-turf race, her turf figure is unlikely to be amended, meaning she may have opportunities when moved back to that surface.

For Charlie, the future is exciting. He has the guidance of his pa in the ?board room?, the jockeyship of his brothers, Michael and Richard, on the horses, and the sponsorship of many of the world?s richest owners in his stable. With a team like that around him, he must be shaking in anticipation at what is to come. Lucky chap!
