Liberal Guest To Hannity: 'Most Republicans Are Fat Asses,' Health ...

While you all were busy watching, and re-watching, the explosive battle between Sean Hannity and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) last night on Fox?s Hannity, another kerfuffle took place during the show, albeit with a much friendlier ending.

During a debate on NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s ?nannying? public health policies, Fox liberal contributor Tamara Holder said that ?most Republicans are fat asses,? and lamented how ?fat Republicans who drive through Wal-Mart in their buggies? are partially responsible for the increased healthcare costs that she believes made ObamaCare necessary.

After introducing the fact that Bloomberg would like to take his ban on large sugary beverages to the statewide level, Hannity took a big ? as Holder called it: ?disgusting? ? bite from a glazed donut. Holder then tried to explain a possible rationale for Bloomberg?s food laws:

?You know why? All Republicans, or most Republicans, are fat asses and get stuck eating these things,? she said.

?You?re calling me a fat ass?? Hannity asked. ?I?ve been called a yellow journalist, immoral, a liar, and now a fat ass. What a night is this?? he joked.

Isn?t it funny that the Republicans, the most conservative Republicans are from the south?? Holder continued. ?And they?re the fattest.?

As Imus producer Bernard McGuirk lit up a cigarette in-studio (yes, this segment quickly went off the rails), Hannity asked to bum one of those as Holder continued to lament overweight conservatives.

Eventually Holder agreed that ?the government shouldn?t regulate [personal decisions] and we?re in control of ourselves,? but, she said, ?what happens is the Republican overeat and they overindulge in everything.?

?And Democrats don?t overeat?? Hannity shot back, still chewing on a donut.

?Why do we have ObamaCare? Because the fat Republicans who drive through Wal-Mart in their buggies,? Holder explained.

?What about the fat Democrats?? Hannity asked. ?There are plenty of fat Democrats.?

Holder challenged Hannity to name names of the non-existent ?fat Democrats.?

Seeing the obvious that yes, overweight Democrats do exist, Holder delivered the quip: ?Well, not this Democrat.?

?Oh, good grief,? Hannity said.

Cheat on taxes? Not cool, say most Americans

IRS Oversight Board

Most Americans don't think it's OK to cheat on taxes.

By Allison Linn, TODAY

Americans may make plenty of jokes about cheating on their taxes, but a new survey finds that in reality most don?t think it?s OK to rob the tax man. Or at least, that?s what they?re telling the IRS Oversight Board.

The?2012 Taxpayer Attitude Survey, released Tuesday by the independent oversight board, finds that 87 percent of Americans don?t think it?s OK to cheat on your taxes. That?s a 3 percentage point increase from last year.

Only 11 percent think it?s OK to cheat, either a little or as much as possible.

Perhaps more surprising, 95 percent of Americans said their personal integrity influences them to report their taxes honestly, an 8 percentage point increase from five years earlier.

About 63 percent said they are influenced by fear of an audit, while 70 percent are motivated by third-party information that could show them to be a tax cheat.

The IRS Oversight Board, an independent body created by Congress in 1998 to oversee the Internal Revenue Service?s actions, completed its annual survey of 1,500 Americans last August and September. The survey has a 3.1 percent margin of error.

If they?re going to pay their taxes honestly, most Americans seem to think everyone else should, too.

The survey found that more than 90 percent of Americans think it?s important that the IRS ensures that low- and high-income taxpayers, small businesses and corporations honestly pay their taxes, too.

Those results appear to show that Americans have come to feel more strongly in recent years that everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, and the IRS should vigorously enforce tax laws.

The results come as many Americans are either getting ready to file their 2012 income tax returns, or already have done so.

They also follow a bruising battle in Washington over the so-called fiscal cliff, a series of tax hikes and spending cuts that were scheduled to take effect until Congress reached a last-minute deal.

The fiscal cliff agreement raised taxes for wealthy Americans earning $400,000 or more and allowed taxes on capital gains and dividends to go up. It also ended a payroll tax holiday, meaning that most Americans are seeing more of their paycheck going to the tax man for Social Security and other entitlements this year.

How honest should people be on their tax returns?

Obama to urge Supreme Court to allow gay marriage in California

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In President Barack Obama's latest act in support of gay rights, his administration will urge the U.S. Supreme Court to allow same-sex marriages to resume in California, an administration official said on Thursday.

Thursday is the deadline for the administration to file a friend-of-the-court brief in a case that is due to be argued on March 26 on whether California's 2008 law, known as Proposition 8, is unlawful under the U.S. Constitution.

The official confirmed an NBC News report of the administration's plans. It was not clear as yet what form the its legal argument would take.

The federal government is not a party in the case and it had been unclear whether the administration would file a brief. Gay rights activists were keen to have it intervene. The official's confirmation meant that it would.

The court's nine justices are under no obligation to pay close attention to the administration brief, or any of the dozens of other briefs filed by groups not a party to the litigation, including businesses, religious institutions and states.

The Obama administration already has taken a stand on gay rights in another case before the court, to be argued a day later on March 27. That case challenges the constitutionality of a central part of the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage under federal law as being between a man and a woman.

The administration has several options it can take in approaching the California case.

One, which would be the boldest and most controversial, would be to argue for a free-standing right to gay marriage in all 50 states, a position gay rights activists have urged officials to take.

That is the approach being taken by the lawyers representing gays and lesbians in the Proposition 8 case.

Alternatively, the administration could keep the focus on California by saying that the ban on gay marriage there is unlawful, without reference to bans in other states.

In what could be described as a compromise position, Verrilli could also choose to say states cannot give all the benefits of marriage to gays and lesbians without calling it marriage. That position, if adopted by the court, would affect not just California but also seven other states that offer benefits to same-sex couples but don't allow marriage.

The seven states, in addition to California, that allow civil unions or domestic partnerships providing all or virtually all state-level spousal rights to same-sex couples but not the "marriage" designation are: Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Nevada and Oregon.

EQUAL PROTECTION

In February 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder said the administration would no longer defend DOMA, the federal law, in that it violated the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law.

In the DOMA case, the administration has said courts should tread carefully when addressing laws that treat gays and lesbians differently from heterosexuals but has not said whether all bans on gay marriage are unconstitutional.

Nine states and the District of Columbia allow same-sex marriage. The nine are Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and Washington.

The gay marriage movement has gained momentum since Proposition 8 was passed in 2008. In 2012, voters in Maryland, Maine and Washington all approved same-sex marriage.

In this Feb. 8, 2013 photo provided by the Metropolitan Opera, Peter Mattei performs as Amfortas in Wagner's "Parsifal," during a dress rehearsal at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. When Mattei agreed to debut the role at the Met, he was known mostly as a Mozart singer, and the only Wagner he had sung was the lyrical Wolfram in ?Tannhaeuser.? At first, Mattei confided, ?I was a little nervous to do it. Wolfram for me was spot on, but I knew Amfortas was a step up dramatically. (AP Photo/ Metropolitan Opera, Ken Howard)

It's midmorning, less than 12 hours after he finished another grueling performance as the tormented Amfortas in Wagner's "Parsifal," and Peter Mattei is already singing again.

"My voice is in perfect shape. I could do a show tonight," the Swedish baritone said in an interview last week, midway through a seven-performance run of Wagner's final opera. "I check after each performance. I sing some Bach, some lieder, because I want to make sure everything's OK. So far, so good."

Better than good, the critics agree. James Jorden in the New York Post praised his "velvety baritone," while Manuela Hoelterhoff for Bloomberg News enthused: "I don't think better singers exist anywhere in the world, especially Peter Mattei as Amfortas."

Listeners have a chance to judge for themselves Saturday when a live matinee performance will be broadcast on the radio and shown in HD on movie theaters around the world. Headlining the cast of the new Francois Girard production are tenor Jonas Kaufmann in the title role, bass Rene Pape and soprano Katarina Dalayman. Daniele Gatti conducts.

Amfortas, though a supporting role, is crucial to "Parsifal." He's the leader of the Knights of the Grail, but is unable to perform his duties because of an agonizing wound inflicted on him by a sorcerer after he was seduced by a beautiful woman. His two long monologues in Acts 1 and 3 are punctuated by cries of rage and remorse, often over heavy orchestration.

When Mattei agreed to debut the role at the Met, he was known mostly as a Mozart singer, and the only Wagner he had sung was the lyrical Wolfram in "Tannhaeuser." At first, Mattei confided, "I was a little nervous to do it. Wolfram for me was spot on, but I knew Amfortas was a step up dramatically.

"You have to dig in a little bit," he said. "But I try to do it in the same way as Wolfram, because the beautiful melodies are really there, even if it is very powerful sometimes."

In the Girard production, the physical demands are as great as the vocal ones. While some Amfortases are carried in a chair or stretcher, Mattei staggers on and off the stage leaning on two extras, who have to support virtually his entire weight. Since Mattei is well over 6 feet, that's no easy task, for him or for them.

"Girard told me, 'They are your legs,'" Mattei said. "He told me Amfortas has syphilis, so that's why his legs aren't working. The bone structure is breaking up. My body has this huge tension, singing crumpled over, not using my legs and always leaning on somebody."

Mattei said he wasn't familiar with "Parsifal" when he began studying the role last summer. "I found it a very good piece to not know so much about," he said, "because then you can just listen to the music, and you'll have a much more instinctive input from Wagner than from a professor who knows everything about Wagner and can explain it for days."

Mattei, 47, was born in the town of Pitea in northern Sweden into a family he describes as "quite poor." His father, an Italian, worked in a factory and his mother sold bread in a shop. He said he began singing "before I could speak," though he didn't study music full-time until he was 18.

"Singing is something I cannot be without," he said. "Even if there's no audience. It's a need." In fact, during the interview ? conducted in the Manhattan apartment where he was awaiting the arrival of his wife and two young children from Sweden ? he repeatedly broke into snatches of an aria or recitative to illustrate a point about this or that role.

Mattei made his professional debut in Mozart's "La Finta Giardiniera" at the Drottningholm Court Theatre in 1990, and a year later he drew acclaim in Sweden in Daniel Bortz's "The Bacchae," directed by Ingmar Bergman at the Royal Swedish Opera. An international career soon followed.

He'll be back at the Met next season for Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin." Beyond that, he said, he's interested in exploring some Verdi roles, including the Marquis di Posa in Verdi's "Don Carlo," a role he has sung only in Scandinavia.

And more Wagner? "Maybe the young Wotan," he said, referring to the god who appears in "Das Rheingold," the first opera in the "Ring" cycle.

His fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for that one.

Thousands jam St. Peter's for pope's last audience

VATICAN CITY (AP) ? Pope Benedict XVI greeted the Catholic masses in St. Peter's Square Wednesday for the last time before retiring, making several rounds of the square as crowds cheered wildly and stopping to kiss a half-dozen children brought up to him by his secretary.

Tens of thousands of people toting banners saying "Grazie!" ? "thank you" ? jammed the piazza to bid farewell to the pope at his final general audience ? the appointment he has kept each week to teach the world about the Catholic faith.

Pilgrims and curiosity-seekers picked spots along the main boulevard leading to the square to watch Wednesday's event on giant TV screens. Some 50,000 tickets were requested for Benedict's final master class, but Italian media estimated the number of people actually attending could be double that.

"It's difficult ? the emotion is so big," said Jan Marie, a 53-year-old Roman in his first years as a seminarian. "We came to support the pope's decision."

With chants of "Benedetto" erupting every so often, the mood was far more buoyant than during the pope's final Sunday blessing and recalled the jubilant turnouts that often accompanied him at World Youth Days and events involving his predecessor, Pope John Paul II.

Benedict on Thursday will become the first pope in 600 years to resign, a decision he said he took after realizing that, at 85, he simply didn't have the strength of mind or body to carry on. He will meet Thursday morning with cardinals for a final time, then fly by helicopter to the papal residence at Castel Gandolfo south of Rome.

There, at 8 p.m., the doors of the palazzo will close and the Swiss Guards in attendance will go off duty, their service protecting the head of the Catholic Church over ? for now.

Many of the cardinals who will choose Benedict's successor were in St. Peter's Square for his final audience, including retired Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony, object of a grass-roots campaign in the U.S. to persuade him to recuse himself for having covered up for sexually abusive priests. Mahony has said he will vote.

Vatican officials say cardinals will begin meeting on Monday to decide when to set the date for the conclave to elect the next pope.

But the rank-and-file in the crowd on Wednesday weren't so concerned with the future; they wanted to savor the final moments with the pope they have known for eight years.

"I came to thank him for the testimony that he has given the church," said Maria Cristina Chiarini, a 52-year-old homemaker who traveled by train early Wednesday from Lugo, near Ravenna, with some 60 members of her parish. "There's nostalgia, human nostalgia, but also comfort, because as a Christian we have hope. The Lord won't leave us without a guide."

Woman accused of Arizona lover's death sent flowers after killing

PHOENIX (Reuters) - A woman charged with capital murder in Arizona testified on Monday that she sent flowers to her former boyfriend's grandmother days after killing him, which prosecutors said showed the lengths to which she went to cover her tracks.

Jodi Arias, 32, could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering 30-year-old Travis Alexander, whose body was found in the shower of his Phoenix area home in June 2008. He was shot in the face, stabbed 27 times and had his throat slit.

In graphic testimony about her relationship with Alexander, Arias has admitted to killing him but said it was in self defense after he attacked her when she dropped his camera while taking pictures of him in the shower. The prosecution has said she killed him in a jealous rage.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez told an Arizona court on Monday how, several days after the killing, Arias sent 20 white irises to Alexander's grandmother, who had helped to raise him in southern California.

"You went out of your way to contact Mr. Alexander's family, didn't you?" Martinez asked Arias. "You actually sent ... her irises ... and in addition to that you attached a note, right?" he added, saying the note indicated the grandmother was in her prayers.

"Yes," Arias replied, before Martinez shot back that she lied about feeling sympathy for Alexander's grandmother as "just a way to assuage your guilt."

"That wasn't my thought," Arias replied.

The testimony came on the second day of cross examination by the prosecution during which Martinez sought to depict Arias as a jealous schemer who tried to cover her tracks by lying to friends, family and police after killing Alexander.

CONTRADICTORY TESTIMONY

The court heard on Monday how, after Arias was arrested in July 2008, she gave a contradictory story to a detective investigating the killing, telling him that she was not present at Alexander's home on the day of his death.

Martinez confronted Arias with how she subsequently changed her story a day later after learning that her fingerprints and a photograph retrieved from Alexander's camera placed her at the scene of her lover's killing.

"You changed your story to comport with the forensic evidence that he was telling you about. ... You did not want any consequences regarding the killing of Travis Alexander, right?"

Arias said she was not "concerned about consequences."

Martinez also cast doubt on previous testimony in which Arias said that, after she told Alexander she was moving away from the Phoenix valley, he struck her with the back of his hand while they sat in a car.

He went over a journal entry Arias had written for that day in which she called Alexander her "best friend in the whole world" and noted that the couple had shared three "very tender kisses" before parting that day.

"This entry does not corroborate what you told us happened in the car ... does it?" he said. Arias agreed that it did not. She admitted there were no photographs, medical or police reports to back up her claim that Alexander struck her.

During aggressive cross examination, Martinez also questioned Arias about an alleged attempt she had made to kill herself with a razor in jail, following her arrest, in which she stopped after she "nicked" herself.

"You stopped because it stung. Can you imagine how much it must have hurt Mr. Alexander when you stuck that knife right into his chest, that really must have hurt right?"

Arias' attorney objected. Her eyes brimmed with tears, although she did not respond.

Shapes Of Things

House of CardsSure, there's a second screen these days. But it's not the one you might think. The second screen is the TV, where the decaying rules remain in force as network comedies atrophy and the fall season is rife with cancellation. The first screen is the mini, managing the push notification appointment calendar and relationships of the binge viewers as they kibitz, joke, and narrate the stream economy.

Pierce lifts road-weary Celtics over Jazz in OT

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) ? The Boston Celtics weren't too tired after playing five games in seven days back and forth across time zones.

They had enough left to play overtime to close out a long Western road trip, beating the Utah Jazz 110-107 on Monday night.

Thirty-five-year-old Paul Pierce led Boston with 26 points, including seven straight in the extra session.

"It was huge," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Whatever that was, it was the best win of the year for me. . To go into overtime and still have enough to win."

It wasn't just the ageless Pierce. Kevin Garnett, three months shy of his 37th birthday, stood strong at the end, refusing to let Rivers sub him out by insisting, "I am good."

Rivers didn't believe that, "but I kept him in and he was terrific."

Garnett had four points in overtime on 2-of-2 shooting, with three rebounds. He finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, a blocked shot and steal.

The Celtics also got a big game from Avery Bradley, who scored a season-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

Pierce had a chance to win it in regulation, but his 19-footer at the buzzer rimmed out.

Alec Burks' reverse layup pulled Utah to 108-105 with 37 seconds left in overtime. Garnett's banked 3-pointer with 13 seconds left came after the shot clock expired, giving the Jazz another chance.

Paul Millsap was fouled before he could get off a 3, but made two free throws with 4.2 seconds remaining.

Courtney Lee added two free throws at the other end with 1.2 seconds left to bump Boston's lead back to three, and Randy Foye's 26-footer at the buzzer missed everything.

It was another one the Jazz let get away, though Monday's game had huge swings both ways from start to finish.

Overall, the game had 13 lead changes and was tied 17 times.

"We were in position," said Jazz forward Marvin Williams. "We fought back in the fourth quarter to force overtime but Boston just made big plays down the stretch."

Gordon Hayward led Utah with 26 points, Millsap had 16 and Al Jefferson finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Celtics (30-27) were playing their fifth game in seven days, but didn't seem to care down the stretch.

The Jazz (31-26) led 101-99 in overtime on DeMarre Carroll's 21-footer, but Pierce countered with a 3-pointer, then followed with a pull-up jumper over Carroll and a 15-footer to give the Celtics a 106-101 edge with 1:12 left.

Jefferson hit a 15-footer with 1:05 left to get Utah within 106-103, but Garnett's jumper helped seal it.

"We knew this was probably going to be the toughest game for us physically and mentally," Pierce said. "Talking about a long road trip, coming in to one of the toughest places to play. We felt we could salvage this trip with a win here. So guys did a good job of just being mentally tough, digging in and doing what we had to do to get the win."

The Celtics, who went 2-3 on the trip, also were smart down the stretch, fouling with fouls to give and finding a wide-open Lee on the inbounds pass when the Jazz needed a late steal in overtime. His free throws provided the final margin.

The Jazz trailed by eight entering the fourth but opened on a 13-2 run.

Jefferson's 10-foot turnaround jumper over Brandon Bass tied it at 93 with 2:46 left in regulation.

Pierce hit an 18-footer with Carroll diving at him for a 97-95 Boston lead with 36 seconds remaining in regulation, only to see Burks tie it with a tough layup with 19 seconds left.

"We wanted to win in regulation," Pierce said. "It would have felt better just to get a stop when we needed it. That's what we need to get better at. We didn't do it in Portland. We didn't do it tonight. That's what we need to start focusing on. When we get the lead and we need crucial stops, we have to figure out how to get them."

The game took a 16-point swing in the third, as Boston trailed 58-50 only to counter with a 20-4 run and lead 80-72 entering the fourth.

Pierce ignited the run with a 3-pointer, Bradley hit two more 3s and Lee added a dunk after a steal and another 3-pointer. Pierce capped the run with a jumper over Hayward for a 70-62 Boston lead.

The Celtics hit 6 of 13 3-pointers in the 32-point third quarter, while Utah made just 5 of 16 from the field.

It was the same story as Saturday, when the Jazz fought back early only to see the Los Angeles Clippers go on a 23-4 run and douse any hopes.

A Jazz team that had won three straight and seven of 10 has now dropped two in a row.

While Hayward showed he is recovered from a right shoulder injury despite missing a pair of shots in overtime, the Jazz still need point guard Mo Williams back from a thumb injury.

Monday, Earl Watson started over Jamaal Tinsley, but Burks ended up playing the position during Utah's big second-quarter run.

Pierce said Boston reverted to various defenses to slow the Jazz.

"We did a lot of zone, did a lot of man and tried to force turnovers," Pierce said. "That's what we have to do. A lot of times we had to go to small because they had plenty of size and they rebound well. We just junked up the game a little bit by changing our defense."

It may have been junk, but it was a win nonetheless.

"We have champions," said guard Jason Terry, who made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and two assists off the bench for Boston.

"When you have champions that have been through so many tough games as we have, then you know you're in good hands. For us, we hang our hat on executing down the stretch."

NOTES; Jazz F Derrick Favors picked up his third foul with 9:06 left in the second quarter. . Jazz G Foye needed four 3-pointers to tie Mehmet Okur (129, 2006-07) for the franchise single-season record. Foye went 0-5 Saturday but hit his first Monday and finished 2 of 6. . Bradley started 5 of 5 and had 10 points in six minutes for Boston, while Millsap started 4 of 4 for Utah. . The Jazz led 53-48 at halftime.

Antiaging Medicine And Research, World Antiaging Network

The 4th Conference in Antiaging, Lifespan and Integrative Medicine at Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Mumbai, India on 23rd and 24th of February 2013. The congress will be attended by the physicians from across the globe to listen to eminent speakers from various fraternity of the Medical fields says Dr. Deepak Chaturvedi , the President of INDOMEDICON.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (PRWEB) February 20, 2013

While other eminent speaker Dr. Anoop Chaturvedi , CEO and the Founder President of the World Antiaging Network (WAAN) the first peer to peer free global network of antiaging physicians, says that with the advancement of modern medicine and technology the life expectancy of individuals are increasing (increasing the ?old olds?) and on the other end, due to various modifiable/non-modifiable, environmental/genetic/life style and other factors, people are showing early signs of aging affecting the daily living and productivity adversely (increasing the ?old young?). The ?Social Jet Lag? (working against the circadian rhythm) has compounded the adverse aging issues by altering the ?Endocrine and Nutritional homeostasis?.

Dr. Light from Dallas Texas, USA comments that Antiaging Medicine works on the principle of preventive medicine (Primordial/Primary/Secondary/Tertiary) applied along with clinical medicine at Individual/population level. With all the discipline of medicine integrated together the ?Aging? process can be made more graceful.

Dr. N.D.Karandikar, Head of Cardiology Department, B.J.Medical College, Pune comments that Aging is no more limited to 60 years or more of age. The effects of Hypertension, Diabetes and other chronic illnesses occurring early in the calendar young population is a great matter of concern. The Antiaging and Age Management approach needs to be initiated early in life. Dr.Deepak Chaturvedi seconds his opinion and advocates the more widespread application of the screening procedures early in life.

Genetic factors, lifestyle, and societal investments in a safe and healthful environment are important aspects of successful aging. Traditionally, the aging process has been considered physiologic and unavoidable, but it may not be necessary to accept the grim stereotype of aging as an unalterable process of decline and loss, says Dr. V.B.Borade, Dean, Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College , Sangli.

One of the eminent pharmacist of International repute Jim, who had also appeared on Dr Phil?s TV show says that as life expectancy increases during the coming decades, the overarching goal should be ?an increase in years of healthy life with a full range of functional capacity at each stage of life.?

Compression of morbidity can be achieved by adapting healthy lifestyle measures, and several aspects of the aging process of the endocrine system invite the development of routine medical intervention programs offering long-term replacement therapy with one or more hormones to delay the aging process and to allow humans to live for a longer period in a relatively intact state, concludes Dr. Anoop Chaturvedi.

After the huge success of Indomedicon 1, 2, and 3 now Indomedicon 4 is coming with a promise to deliver a totally new flavor where technology meets evidence based medicine, loaded with latest recent advances in antiaging genetics, antiaging nutrition, Aesthetics, Hormone modulation, Weight loss, electronic medical record system and social media tools to enhance anti-aging practices.

The universal process of aging is becoming better understood. There appear to be shared underlying cellular and molecular processes that induce widespread dysregulation in key systems. This dysregulation contributes to clinical manifestations of a AGING phenotype and can be used to understand how to evaluate and manage AGING.

More and more physicians and health care professionals are gearing towards wellness medicine and trying to integrate the latest advances in antiaging Aesthetic medicine in their practices. World Antiaging Network and Antiaging Medicine and Research are dedicated to make this move easy for the aspiring physicians and invites health professional and policy makers to attend Indomedicon 2013 , concludes Dr Chaturvedi, President Antiaging Medicine And Research (AMAR) .

Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000

Despite the popularity of noise canceling headphones like the Bose QuietComfort 15, in-canal noise canceling earphones remain a rare alternative. The reason seems simple: The circuitry and battery compartment for noise cancellation has to go somewhere, and unfortunately, as with the $149.95 (list) Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000, it's awkwardly placed along the cable, requiring a shirt clip for mobile use. Thus far, the only earphones to actually fit the circuitry inside the earpieces themselves are the Sony XBA-NC85D, an overpriced underperformer. The UltraFocus 6000 provides deep bass response and powerful, distortion-free audio performance, as well as top-notch noise cancellation, but if the shirt clip compartment is a dealbreaker, check out some on-ear headphone alternatives.

Design
The circuitry may exist outside the earpieces, but even so, the UltraFocus 6000 still has bulky earpieces compared with many of today's streamlined earphone options. Regardless, the black, rubberized plastic design is lightweight and quite secure.?The aforementioned battery/circuitry compartment is located along the thick, linguini-esque cable, more or less midway down, so that it can be clipped either to a shirt, a belt, or a pants pocket.

In addition to the Power switch, the Ultrafocus 6000 features a sound attenuator switch, which lowers sound sources by 10 decibels?useful for airplanes, which often have louder outputs. There's also a push-to-hear ambient control, so you can hear your surroundings clearly without removing the earphones. Unfortunately, the UltraFocus 6000 does not output audio in passive mode. You must use the battery, and the noise cancellation, to listen to music.Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000 inline

The Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000 is also offered, perplexingly for the same price, as the Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000i, which features inline mobile phone controls and a microphone. If you're looking to use it with your iOS device, make sure you buy the version with "i" appended to its name. We tested the version without controls, but this review should serve as an evaluation of both.

With seven included ear tip pairs?some are the typical silicon shape, some are flange-shaped, some are foam?there is quite a variety to choose from, which bolsters the already secure-fitting design of the 6000 even more.

One AAA battery is included with the UltraFocus 6000; Polk Audio estimates the battery life for the earphones at roughly 30 hours. It would have been nice to see a rechargeable option here, but we've thus far seen only one rechargeable in-ear pair, the Sony XBA-NC85D. Also included: a Nokia device adapter, an airline jack adapter, and a rigid zip-up protective case.

Performance
The UltraFocus 6000 has no issues with deep bass frequencies. At high volumes, it churns out sub-bass content with some serious power. Even songs with particularly challenging sub-bass frequencies, like the Knife's "Silent Shout," are delivered distortion-free, all the way up to maximum (and unsafe, by the way) listening levels.

There's a significant boost to both low and high frequencies. On Bill Callahan's "Drover," his vocals sound a bit overshadowed by the intense lower frequencies, however?the treble boost doesn't quite bring out enough of the edge in his baritone vocal delivery, and the mix ends up sounding a bit muffled.

The higher frequencies also feel a bit dialed back on Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild." Vocals are delivered with enough clarity, but the intense kick drum loop is missing the hi-mid grit that it usually packs, detracting from the power of the mix a bit.

The UltraFocus 6000's sound signature fares better on classical tracks, like John Adams' "The Chairman Dances," lending enough edge to the higher register strings to balance out the enhanced resonance of the lower register strings. Things are not muddy here, and never approach overly bright or harsh. It's a boosted, but balanced, sound.

There's a dirty little secret about active noise cancellation and in-ear earphones that's rarely acknowledged: Passive noise cancellation?using ear plugs, for instance?works just as well, if not better, and it's far less expensive. This is particularly relevant here because I'd venture that roughly 80 percent (conservative guess) of in-canal earphones achieve a significant level of ambient noise reduction just by sealing off your ear canal. Are they as effective as earplugs? No, but they come pretty close.

In other words, in-ear noise canceling pairs have less work to do than headphones, because they already block out so much of the sound. The UltraFocus 6000 is nonetheless armed with some solid noise cancellation technology. Turn the system on, and wide swaths of ambient sound are drastically dampened. Unlike many on-ear pairs that use less-than-top-of-the-line circuitry, the UltraFocus 6000 seems to avoid producing much high frequency hiss. But these earphones already reduce much of a room's noise just by sitting in your ears.

Thus, the obvious question: If in-ear noise cancellation is so much easier to pull off, and as the UltraFocus 6000 demonstrates, also less expensive (compared to, say, the Bose QuietComfort 15), why are there so few in-ear options compared to on-ear options? And the answer, I believe, is the dreaded battery compartment/circuitry box. The bulk of the inline compartment, and its weight, makes the shirt clip a necessity. There's no way around it: It's annoying.

Other in-ear options, like the Phiaton PS 20 NC, exist, and yes, it features the cumbersome shirt-clip compartment as well. But unlike the UltraFocus 6000, the PS 20 NC can output audio in passive mode, which is a huge advantage. If you dread the clip as I do, you'll need to go the on-ear headphone route, as we don't highly recommend Sony's ground-breaking?but very overpriced?in-ear, external compartment-free option, the aforementioned XBA-NC85D. If excellent noise cancellation is your main priority, the Bose QuietComfort 15 is a tried and true winner. If better music performance is your priority, consider the AKG K 490 NC, which also features solid noise cancellation, as well as Polk Audio's own Ultrafocus 8000.

But, in the in-canal noise canceling realm, the UltraFocus 6000 is a solid contender, armed with quality noise cancellation circuitry and distortion-free audio performance. If solid, in-ear noise cancellation is what you're looking for, the UltraFocus 6000, though far from flawless, is worth your consideration.

Falcon Pro for Android Reaches its Twitter Token Limit

Falcon Pro, one of the best Twitter applications for Android, has run into a significant problem. The app can no longer authenticate new users because it reached the 100,000 token limit that Twitter imposes on all third-party applications. This restriction requires any new Twitter application to only have a maximum of 100,000 users at a time.?

The token limit took Falcon Pro developer Joaquim Verg?s?by surprise. He knew the limit would be reached eventually, he just didn?t expect it to happen so soon.

?For the numbers, Play Store tells me 40k users,? Verg?s wrote?on the Falcon Pro Twitter page. ?Piracy is unstopabble, nothing I can do to prevent that.?

Users have suggested possible solutions such as adding license checks, creating additional tokens and creating a new build of Falcon Pro, but?Verg?s doesn?t believe any of these will work in the long term. Therefore, he decided to create a petition in an effort to convince Twitter to raise the token limitation for Falcon Pro. There are currently 1,313 signatures on the petition.

Twitter users can also help out by revoking access to the Twitter applications they don?t use. To revoke access to an app that connects to Twitter, log in to Twitter on the web, go to settings, click on apps and revoke access to any app you don?t use anymore. Doing this won?t ultimately save Falcon Pro, but at least it?ll free up some space for someone who wants to try the app.

Fantasy Baseball 2013: NL/AL-Only Position Rankings

Smokeymcpots and I teamed up to rank our 2013 NL-Only and AL-Only position rankings, and links to all of our rankings are a click away.

Smokey and I are teaming up to publish NL-Only and AL-Only position rankings for those of you in "only" leagues. They aren't as popular as mixed leagues, but I play in more "only" leagues than mixed leagues, and always have. I think "only" leagues require you to do a bit more homework to find that corner infielder or 4th-5th outfielder who could end up playing everyday.

Anyway, here are our rankings for catcher, first base, second base and shortstop. We will be publishing out third base and outfielder rankings next week.

First Base: NL|AL

Second Base: NL|AL

Shortstop: NL|AL

FDA approves new targeted breast cancer drug

On Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the approval of the first-of-a-kind breast cancer medication that targets tumor cells while sparing healthy ones. (AP Photo/Roche)

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Food and Drug Administration has approved a first-of-a-kind breast cancer medication that targets tumor cells while sparing healthy ones.

The drug Kadcyla from Roche combines the established drug Herceptin with a powerful chemotherapy drug and a third chemical linking the medicines together. The chemical keeps the cocktail intact until it binds to a cancer cell, delivering a potent dose of anti-tumor poison.

Cancer researchers say the drug is an important step forward because it delivers more medication while reducing the unpleasant side effects of chemotherapy.

"This antibody goes seeking out the tumor cells, gets internalized and then explodes them from within. So it's very kind and gentle on the patients ? there's no hair loss, no nausea, no vomiting," said Dr. Melody Cobleigh of Rush University Medical Center. "It's a revolutionary way of treating cancer."

Cobleigh helped conduct the key studies of the drug at the Chicago facility.

The FDA approved the new treatment for about 20 percent of breast cancer patients with a form of the disease that is typically more aggressive and less responsive to hormone therapy. These patients have tumors that overproduce a protein known as HER-2. Breast cancer is the second most deadly form of cancer in U.S. women, and is expected to kill more than 39,000 Americans this year, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The approval will help Roche's Genentech unit build on the blockbuster success of Herceptin, which has long dominated the breast cancer marketplace. The drug had sales of roughly $6 billion last year.

Genentech said Friday that Kadcyla will cost $9,800 per month, compared to $4,500 per month for regular Herceptin. The company estimates a full course of Kadcyla, about nine months of medicine, will cost $94,000.

FDA scientists said they approved the drug based on company studies showing Kadcyla delayed the progression of breast cancer by several months. Researchers reported last year that patients treated with the drug lived 9.6 months before death or the spread of their disease, compared with a little more than six months for patients treated with two other standard drugs, Tykerb and Xeloda.

Overall, patients taking Kadcyla lived about 2.6 years, compared with 2 years for patients taking the other drugs.

FDA specifically approved the drug for patients with advanced breast cancer who have already been treated with Herceptin and taxane, a widely used chemotherapy drug. Doctors are not required to follow FDA prescribing guidelines, and cancer researchers say the drug could have great potential in patients with earlier forms of breast cancer

Kadcyla will carry a boxed warning, the most severe type, alerting doctors and patients that the drug can cause liver toxicity, heart problems and potentially death. The drug can also cause severe birth defects and should not be used by pregnant women.

Kadcyla was developed by South San Francisco-based Genentech using drug-binding technology licensed from Waltham, Mass.-based ImmunoGen. The company developed the chemical that keeps the drug cocktail together and is scheduled to receive a $10.5 million payment from Genentech on the FDA decision. The company will also receive additional royalties on the drug's sales.

Shares of ImmunoGen Inc. rose 2 cents to $14.32 in afternoon trading. The stock has ttraded in a 52-wek range of $10.85 to $18.10.

Donovan speaks publicly for 1st time in?2 months

Ah, citizen journalism. It can change the world, as we know.

Clearly, Landon Donovan?s words spoken to a USC business class Wednesday are not somehow historic in the way, say, the citizen journalist?s pictures that showed Rodney King?s brutal beating were, or the vital chronicles of the Arab Spring.

But for soccer supporters, this represents the first we?ve heard from Donovan since the moments after his LA Galaxy won MLS Cup last December.

Donovan appeared in a regular University of Southern California forum called ?The Competitive Edge.?? A student identified on Twitter as Jesse Xiao went to the social media forum to alert the world that, among other things, Donovan did want to get back into the national team.

Have a nice day, Jurgen Klinsmann! That should put a little more pep in his step.

Donovan has taken time off since MLS Cup; he recently announced through the Galaxy a return to the MLS club set for late March.

(MORE: Landon Donovan sets return for late next month)

While the quotes attributed to Donovan have yet to be corroborated, the U.S. national team and LA Galaxy all-time leading scorer has ample ability through either organization to disclaim the words attributed to him. Presumably, he would have by now if any were less than accurate.

Among what Xiao tweeted:

Conan O?Brien to Headline Washington Correspondents? Dinner

The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien

?Last year?s dinner featured Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers, Jay Leno and Craig Ferguson have been the entertainment in years past.?[HP]

My oh my, how time have changed. Once upon a Bush Administration ago it would have been utter anathema for a Hollywood liberal to be seen consorting with political bigwigs. But after Stephen Colbert?s legend-making performance where he skewered Dubya while standing next to him, there has been no looking back for the annual White House Correspondents? Dinner.

Up for hosting duties this year is late night funny man Conan O?Brien, who actually hosted the event once before waaaaay back in 1995 when it wasn?t such a big deal (and when neither was he, if you recall).

O?Brien marked the news by tweeting: ?I?m honored to host the WH Correspondents dinner. Get ready for 2 minutes of jokes, then 40 minutes on public employee pension reform.?

Pension reform has never been this funny.

Drew Peterson gets 38 years in third wife's murder

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) ? Drew Peterson ? the swaggering Chicago-area police officer who gained notoriety after his much-younger fourth wife vanished in 2007 ? was sentenced to 38 years in prison on Thursday for murdering his third wife.

The sentence came moments after Peterson shocked the courtroom with a rare public outburst of anger as he proclaimed his innocence in the death of Kathleen Savio.

"I did not kill Kathleen!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, emphasizing every word.

Peterson seemed to look across the courtroom at Savio's family. Savio's sister Susan Doman shot back "Yes, you did. You liar!" before the judge ordered sheriff's deputies to remove her from the courtroom.

Illinois does not have the death penalty, and the 59-year-old Peterson had faced a maximum 60-year prison term. The judge gave him four years' credit for time he has served since his arrest.

Jurors convicted Peterson in September in Savio's 2004 death. Neighbors found the 40-year-old's body in a dry bathtub at home with a gash on her head ? her hair soaked in blood.

Peterson is also a suspect in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson ? who was 23-years-old when she vanished ? but he hasn't been charged in her case. It was her disappearance that led authorities to take another look at Savio's death and eventually reclassify it from an accident to a homicide.

Fascination nationwide with Drew Peterson arose from speculation he sought to use his law enforcement expertise to get away with murder.

After his courtroom outburst, Peterson addressed the judge with a rambling speech, claiming he had been railroaded. He spoke in mostly hushed tones, crying and trying to regain his composure at times. His voice quivered and his hands were shaking as he reached out for a glass of water.

He aimed some of his anger at lead prosecutor James Glasgow, saying sarcastically that Glasgow could now celebrate because he had destroyed Peterson's life.

"You perpetrated the largest railroad job ever in this country," Peterson told him. Minutes later, Peterson challenged Glasgow to look him in the eyes. Glasgow, who had been taking notes, laid down his pen, folded his arms and looked straight back at Peterson.

"Never forget what you've done here," Peterson said, gritting his teeth.

Peterson had divorced Savio a year before her death. His motive for killing her, prosecutors said, was fear that a pending settlement would wipe him out financially.

"We all got an opportunity to see a psychopath reveal himself in open court," Glasgow told reporters after Thursday's hearing as he called Peterson a "cold-blooded killer."

Before Thursday, Peterson had never publicly showed concern about the serious charges and the possible sentence he faced. The glib, cocky former police officer seemed to taunt authorities before his 2009 arrest, suggesting a "Win a Date With Drew Contest" and then, after his arrest, "Win a Conjugal Visit With Drew Contest." More recently, his story inspired a TV movie starring Rob Lowe.

His personality loomed large over his trial, illustrated by crowds of bystanders gathered outside the courthouse in a circuslike atmosphere after his conviction last year, cheering as prosecutors walked by and shouting, "Loser. Loser. Loser," at defense attorneys.

Savio's family members told the judge Thursday that they hoped she was somehow watching the proceedings.

"I hope she is haunting him in his dreams," said Henry Savio Jr., the victim's brother. "I hope ... she is watching his descent into hell."

Savio added his only consolation was that Peterson would be "rotting in prison for the rest of his life."

The verdict was a vindication for Glasgow and his team, who gambled by putting on a case they conceded was filled with holes.

Prosecutors had no physical evidence tying Peterson to Savio's death and no witnesses placing him at the scene. They were forced to rely on typically barred hearsay ? statements Savio made to others before she died and that Stacy Peterson made before she vanished. Illinois passed a hearsay law in 2008 tailored to Drew Peterson's case, dubbed "Drew's Law," which assisted in making some of the evidence admissible at Peterson's trial.

The hearsay ? any information reported by a witness not based on the witness' direct knowledge ? included a friend testifying that Savio told her Peterson once put a knife to her throat and warned her, "I could kill you and make it look like an accident."

A turning point at the trial came when the defense called a divorce attorney who said he spoke to Stacy Peterson before she vanished. Rather than blunting her credibility, the witness stressed to jurors that Stacy Peterson seemed to truly believe her husband killed Savio.

Earlier Thursday, Judge Edward Burmila denied a defense request to grant Drew Peterson a retrial. Peterson's current attorneys contended his former lead attorney, Joel Brodsky, botched the initial trial and had been the one to decide to call Smith to the stand. Brodsky stepped down from the defense team in November, as his quarrel with Peterson's current lawyers worsened.

Prosecutors suspect Peterson killed his sandy-haired fourth wife because she could finger him for Savio's death, but her body has never been found and no charges have ever been filed. Jurors weren't supposed to link her disappearance to Savio's death, and prosecutors were prohibited from mentioning the subject.

Peterson has maintained his fourth wife ran off with another man and is still alive.

Peterson's attorneys have said they might appeal all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court on grounds Illinois' hearsay law is unconstitutional.
