Honda Improves Fuel Economy for Motorcycles | 365 News Now.Com

Sep 28 2011

Car Finance customers who want to switch to a cheaper mode of transport will like this: HONDA is not only busy with research to improve fuel economy and emission levels of their motor cars ? the company?s research also stretches to motorcycles.? It has just developed new 125cc and 700cc engines, making use of its trade mark dual clutch transmission technology.

The 700cc liquid cooled engine is an in-line two-cylinder four-stroke model that forms part of the company?s mid range models.? Compared to other sports motorcycles in its class it boasts an impressive 40% improvement in fuel economy.

The engineers who developed the new engine had a clear brief from Honda: it should be lightweight, it should provide high performance while being fuel efficient and environmentally friendly at the same time and it should offer easy handling and lots of torque.

The engine features an array of low friction technologies that all work together to provide better fuel economy.? For the first time ever in a motorcycle, light-weight aluminium is utilised in the manufacture of the friction reducing roller rocker arm.? The shape of the combustion chamber and the valve timing have been optimised for fuel economy and the pistons have been coated with special resin coating to reduce friction.

The dual clutch transmission system has been fitted with a learning function that can detect the riding environment ? from mountain passes to city streets.? It delivers fuel economy that compares favourably with that offered by manual transmissions.

Fuel economy of the 125cc model is about 25% better than the model it replaces.
