Amanpour's husband resigns as Port Authority head

NEW YORK (AP) ? The husband of CNN foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour has resigned as commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

A spokesman for the Port Authority confirms Sunday that James Rubin's last day was Wednesday. He was appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/15rgJ1h ) Rubin will move to London with his wife and son.

Rubin was the State Department's chief spokesman under President Bill Clinton. Before entering government, he was a journalist and a professor.

Rubin led the Port Authority's security committee and was a member of its operations committee. Cuomo also appointed him as a counselor to the state's Empire State Development Corporation.

Rubin will be a scholar in residence at Oxford University's Rothermere American Institute. He also plans to write a book.
